In light of the isolation and boredom that afflicted two groups of chimpanzees in a Czech zoo with the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, there was no way to stay listening except to make daily zoom calls.
According to the American Washington Post, the animals in the "Dvor Kralove Safari" in the Czech Republic and in another zoo in Brno, have suffered as a result of the closure in the country, and due to the lack of visitors. Garden workers say that for these intelligent creatures, stimulation and interaction are vital to their happiness and well-being.
But with no signs of the epidemic slowing in the country, workers face the challenge of trying to keep the animals in their enclosed spaces without anyone contacting them.
Orders were issued to close the zoos in the Czech Republic last December, and it is not known when they will reopen. More than 24,000 people have died from the Corona epidemic in the Czech Republic, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. But while its neighboring countries in Europe have begun to emerge from strict lockdown measures, the Czech Republic is still registering new infections in light of a new and severe outbreak of the British strain of the virus.
One of the rangers at the park told CNN that at first the animals knew nothing about the technology and were concerned about it. And groups of chimpanzees are able to observe other monkeys in another zoo in the country for several hours a day through the virtual world.
At first they approached the screen with a defensive or threatening move, says the guard, but then they changed their behavior and now seem to be enjoying the daily video calls.
