The Tunisian Foreign Minister affirms keenness to upgrade relations with Russia


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Al-Jarandi affirmed his country's keenness to upgrade and strengthen the existing relations with Russia.

This came during the coordination meeting held by Al-Jundi. To consider issues related to the resumption of air traffic with the Russian side, the provision of vaccines, and the return of Tunisian students to Russian universities, with the participation of representatives of the ministries of national defense, interior, health, tourism, higher education, scientific research, transport and logistics, in addition to the participation of the Tunisian ambassador to Moscow through video technology.

A statement issued by the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today stated that Al-Jundi stressed - during the meeting - the importance that Tunisia attaches to the issue of the return of Tunisian students to continue their education in Russian universities, and the need for more coordination between the various intervening parties to seek practical and feasible solutions to address this issue.

Al-Jundi highlighted the importance of developing bilateral cooperation between Tunisia and Russia in the fields of transport and tourism, especially in the context of promoting the Tunisian tourist destination in the Russian market in accordance with the health protocol for the tourism sector, with the aim of attracting a significant number of Russian tourists to visit Tunisia.

On the other hand, the minister praised the level of cooperation between the two countries in the health field, calling for more coordination with the Russian side to expedite the acquisition of the Sputnik-V vaccine.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to form a leadership committee that would conduct bilateral consultations with the Russian party to look into possibilities for joint cooperation in matters of providing vaccines, reopening borders and strengthening the tourism sector.
