Colombian authorities confirmed that a new massacre occurred in the rural area of the municipality of Algeciras in the province of Huila, in which nine people were killed.
The Venezuelan "Tele Sur" channel indicated that the event took place in the village of Kepardon, which is a rural area, especially on a farm owned by the father of Alvaro Barrera, from the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, who worked as an attendant for the special unit of the United National Party.
Members of the community confirmed the news and were shocked by this crime that occurred on the morning of Monday, May 31, when a group of gunmen arrived at the farm and shot its manager and eight people were there, one of whom was a woman, whose identity has not been identified.
"He sent a force to verify what was happening and when the army arrived, they found nine dead, eight men and one woman," he added.
According to local media, the army confirmed the truth of the matter. For its part, the Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) condemned the murders as the 41 massacre so far this year.
For several years, the Huila countryside was the scene of bloody fighting between armed groups. This is the third such event to happen in less than a year on this farm whose owner is Alvaro Barrera.
In July 2020, four people were killed, including a minor under 16 years old, and two others were injured, and the second accident took place two months later, on September 22, 2020, in which three people were killed, including one under 17 years old.
Police, intelligence, military and CTI have traveled to the site to take urgent action that will allow us to determine the motives behind this new violent act. Some ex-rebels of the FARC-EP are in the area led by the alias "El Bisa".
