Sleep and exercise help children overcome obesity


A recent Australian study revealed that sleep and exercise help children overcome obesity, reduce the effects of the Corona lockdown and on the physical and mental health of children, by sleeping for a few extra minutes or making them exercise more.


  A study published at the University of South Australia showed that children can achieve a reduction in body mass index (BMI) either through extra sleep or extra exercise.


In their paper, the researchers write, according to a ScienceDaily report, that exercising another 17 minutes (moderate to vigorous exercise), sleeping for an additional 52 minutes, or reducing sitting or sitting time for an additional 56 minutes, any of which can help children achieve the same reduction by percentage. 7.4% in BMI (Body Mass Index)).


Likewise, children may be able to significantly improve their mental health by either doing an additional 35 minutes (moderate to vigorous exercise), sleeping an additional 68 minutes, or reducing the sitting or sitting time for 54 minutes.


Do your children sleep 9-11 hours?

 

Lead researcher, Dr. Dot Domweed, indicated that international guidelines recommend that children need 9-11 hours of sleep, 60 minutes of physical exercise, and no more than two hours of entertainment screen time per day, but he said that only 7% of Children achieve these goals regularly.


Although the study confirmed that physical activity or exercise has a greater and faster effect on physical health and mental well-being, it suggested that children could achieve similar benefits by choosing different activity swaps over a 24-hour period.


For example, for families with little time, small increases in moderate to vigorous exercise can be an option to improve the health and well-being of their children. Instead, going to bed a little earlier can offer the same health benefits.


University of South Australia researchers collaborated with the Murdoch Institute for Research in Children to conduct the study, which was supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia.
