Two earthquakes near the Iraqi-Iranian border



The Iraqi General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology announced today, Tuesday, that two earthquakes occurred at dawn today near the Iraqi-Iranian borders from Diyala province.


The authority said, in its statement reported by Alsumaria News, that the two tremors were recorded close to each other, the first at 02:38:29 local time, with a magnitude of 2.8 degrees, 7 km east of Khanaqin district, and the second at 03:30:56 local time. Its strength is 3.3 degrees, and it is 9 km east of Khanaqin.


The authority called on citizens to take precautions and avoid false news and rumors, and to abide by the seismic commandments issued by the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring.


The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology in Iraq announced Monday that three earthquakes had occurred in the district of Khanaqin from Diyala Governorate. East of Khanaqin district and the second, with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale, 11 km southeast of Khanaqin, while the third earthquake was of 3.7 magnitude and 6 km southeast of Khanaqin.
