Researchers at the Houston Methodist Research Institute in the United States have found a new treatment that can combat breast cancer, as it has been shown to improve the health of patients with genetic mutations from breast cancer in its early stages, according to the Medical Express website.
The researchers noted that this treatment succeeded in preventing cancer cells from repairing their DNA, which significantly reduces the risk of breast cancer recurring in high-risk patients after completion of standard chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.
The study was conducted on a number of patients in 32 countries around the world, to test the effectiveness of the new drug, which showed that it significantly improves the growth of cancer cells and reduces their presence inside the breast, when given for 52 weeks after completion of standard treatments such as chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.
The results found that after three years of starting treatment with the new drug, it was found that 85.9% of patients who received it succeeded in recovering from breast cancer and new cancers, compared to other patients.
It is worth noting that breast cancer affects one in seven women during their lifetime, and the majority of cases are over the age of fifty, so it is important to note any changes that occur and require medical advice.
One of the most prominent symptoms of breast cancer is the feeling of a solid mass in the breast, or noticing the presence of any thick area in the breast that may be an alarm bell, a feeling of thicker skin than usual, in addition to the appearance of boils, which is an important sign of the disease.
The report also indicated that there are some factors that lead to the disease, which include simple physical activity, weight and diet, especially after menopause, and it was found that alcohol consumption increases the risk of breast cancer as well.
