Researchers said, that a Russian experiment has proven the effectiveness of the Sputnik V vaccine to protect against new mutations of the Corona virus, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Last month, President Vladimir Putin ordered a review of Russian vaccines produced by March 15th to ensure they are effective against new variants spreading in different parts of the world.
Dennis Luzhunov, deputy director of the Gamalya Center who developed the Sputnik vaccine, a recent study conducted by the center showed, that the Sputnik V vaccine works very well against new Corona virus mutations, including Corona virus strains in the United Kingdom and South Africa. The trial results are expected to be published soon, but this was the first indication of how the tests will proceed.
The Russian TASS agency added, the so-called virus vector vaccines such as Sputnik V and the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca use modified, harmless viruses as compounds or vectors to transmit genetic information that helps the body build immunity against future Corona infection.
“We believe that vector-based vaccines are actually better for future re-vaccination than vaccines based on other platforms,” Luzhunov said. “Vector immunity is not a new problem but has undergone renewed testing as companies including Johnson expect regular Corona vaccines, such as influenza vaccines. Annual, it may be necessary to combat new variants of the coronavirus.
