A veterinary clinic in Germany trained police dogs to detect the emerging corona virus in human saliva samples with an accuracy of 94 percent.
Esther Schalke, who works at a veterinary dog training center of the German Armed Forces, said that dogs first get used to the "smell of corona" that comes from the cells of those infected with the virus before they begin their mission.
For his part, Holger Falk, head of the veterinary clinic, said, "We conducted a study in which we made dogs smell samples of people with Covid-19, and we can say that the success rate in our study is 94 percent."
Last September, Finland began training dogs to monitor the emerging corona virus in samples taken from travelers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, as part of a pilot project, in addition to the usual examination procedures at the airport.
In Chile, Santiago International Airport also uses dogs for screening operations.
